Dappled Hammocks

I settle back and close my eyes. The dappled sunshine warms my face and I smile, sighing with momentary contentment. My daughters body relaxes bit by bit, her warmth seeping through my tshirt. My mind flashes back to her as a newborn, sleeping just this way against my chest. Looking down I thoughtfully study the way her impossibly long eyelashes rest against her cheek. The urge to trace every line of her face is irresistible. Instead I close my eyes again and let the swaying of the hammock guide my thoughts away from the present.
